James Gourlay
Conductor and Tuba Soloist

James Gourlay

James Gourlay was born in Scotland, where he was 'volunteered' to play in the local school band. Being the tallest in class, his teacher, William J. Ross, gave him a tuba saying 'play that'. So begins a 40 year old love-affair with the noblest, the most flexible instrument of the orchestra! James still tries to follow Mr. Ross' advice!
From Scotland, to London, then to Birmingham, London again, Manchester, Glasgow and now to Pittsburgh's River City Brass, James' tuba has led him on and on. It's a blast!
